Calcify

It was a surprise five-year anniversary gift:              A  Photoshoot
I had one of the best portrait photographers in the city.

She met me on the path, we kissed.

When the man with the camera approached us across the lawn, I watched her face closely:
mixed emotions.

But we laughed, and she relaxed, and was gracious.

He took a shot to test the light on our skin.

We discussed what we might like for the space above the couch, and she was cold.

This is the last photo of us happy together

 just then she said
'
we'r e ove
r'

and i turned to stone

i couldn't even care that bastard photographer kept clicking away

never one to pass on attention
she exercised her Dominique Francon power
and made it an occasion worthy of headlines

WOMAN DESTROYS ANOTHER MAN

the soft part of me wept
the hard part moved on

the fire inside grew dark

We came together and and
i was the one who died.

They built a statue of us

which i will never see.
